Apart was the first tune I wrote for the record and also the last tune I finished. This tune set the tone for the album and I feel I used it as a template sonicly for the rest of the album in terms of what instruments and sounds I would carry through. I struggled to write the chorus for this song and hooked up with Davey Lane only 2 weeks before we released it. In fact the song had been mixed without a chorus. Davey and I wrote the chorus recorded it and drop it over the top only days before it came out.. close call to say the least.

Babylon is the title track obviously and it is also one of my favourite. Lyricly I feel really connected to it. Babylon has always been a considered place of beauty and luxury and I guess its about me one day trying to get to Babylon.. a better place. In the chorus I am talking to my dad and admitting defeat and fault and that I am not really sure if I am getting things right. A big step for me and most other guys as the last person I want to show weakness to is my dad.

This song almost didn't make the cut. The demo I made of this song sounded a lot more like a Gorillaz tune believe it or not and I felt like it didn't fit with the others. I had to really work quite hard to bring it into line sonically and re-arrange a lot of the parts. This was also one of the last songs I finished writing and was still working on it the day before we recorded it. Sam from Guinea Fowl got on board and took the tune to another level.. such an awesome talent. I really feel privileged to have worked with him.

This song I wrote on a trip I took down to Philip Island early last year. I spent 4 days by myself in a caravan, I did a fair bit of drinking and was feeling pretty shit about life and where I was at with the record at that point. I drove to the beach in the morning before I left and was sitting there looking at the ocean and there was an old homeless guy drinking a beer in the wind, I sat there and wrote the whole song in an hour. I was quite emotional about the tune. I sent it to Alex of Sparkadia and he wrote what I think is the best chorus on the record, a true word smith.

The big gun Jimmy Barnes gets involved on this track obviously, still can't believe he is on my record. This song lyrically really cuts to the core of what I'm about and how I feel about my passion for following my heart and not being controlled by the powers that be. Chorus on this is just epic. I love this tune.

Short but sweet. I don't have much to say about this tune it speaks for itself. Its got a real 60's garage rock sound and is really about pushing things to the limit and throwing caution to the wind in life something I'm all about. I used a farfisa organ on a lot of the record but it features quite heavily on here.

One of my favourite tunes. Another song that I wrote very early in the process and it really helped set the template sonically as well. I knew that I was doing something different when I started making the record and heading in to new territory and I guess I was pre empting any hate that I thought would follow that and stepping out and making it clear that I don't do what the others do and I'm not afraid to step out there and be myself and that others shouldn't get caught up in the crap society feeds us.

3:29

This song I wrote on my lonesome one day, I had spent all morning on Facebook wasting my time and then I started thinking about the book in detail and how caught up we have become. I think there is a touch of humor in this tune but also a real serious side and almost a sad side. I love this tune and I love the meaning behind it.

3:51

Made this beat really early in the piece. Another song that I scraped and pulled together at the last minute, its about the people in my life like friends, family and fans that have contributed to my journey and helped make all this possible.

3:42

This is about the struggle I faced with finding inspiration for the album. I was in Bali by myself and felt pretty lonely and lost for words. I started thinking about all the time I spent away from home due to life on the road and how much I put in to this and how much music means to me. to be honest I think about throwing the towel in a lot. This song is a reminder to me that its all worth it.

4:31

My favourite tune on the record. It sounds like a Beatles song meets Phrase, I sung the chorus on this song which I was really unsure about doing so it was a challenger to me and I'm glad I took it on. The song talks about my problem that I have with always pushing the limits in whatever I do and not knowing where to draw the line.

3:41

I put this tune last on the record because it is a stomper. Song goes down incredible live and again talks about the government keeping things from us and keeping all the good shit to themselves. Rich get rich poor stay poor vibe.
